Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) sometimes known as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome is an endocrine disorder related to insulin resistance. High levels of insulin can cause the body to produce too much testosterone, which in turn can have a masuclinising effect on the body causing excessive male pattern hair growth. The condition is believed to affect as many as 20% of the female population.

Symptoms include:

• Excessive male pattern hair growth
• Irregular periods or a complete lack of periods
• Irregular ovulation or no ovulation at all
• Reduced fertility
• Oily skin, acne
• Thinning hair or hair loss
• Weight problems
• Depression and mood changes

Excessive hair growth can be limited to the face or may also affect body areas such as chest, stomach and thighs. Unwanted facial hair growth can vary from one or two stray hairs to a full male pattern facial growth. Whatever the extent of the hair growth Cristianos can deal with it.

Our prices quoted are per session and are determined by our overheads in terms of premises, equipment, staff and time investment. We have chosen to invest in the application and maintenance of high quality equipment, employing and training professionals, continuous professional development not only meeting but exceeding the National Minimum Standards. Although much of this work is behind the scenes, it shows through in the quality of treatment and care our clients receive.

Of course for any business time is money, the time invested in compliance with quality standards is directly proportionate to the end product, the provision of safe quality assured treatment and care.

Costs for larger areas depends on the size and density of the hair growth in the area. We can give approx costs on request. At consultation we will asses the area/s and cost accordingly. For multiple areas we offer a 20% discount from the entire treatment cost.

FAQs

We have been specialising in hair removal since 1997. Dealing with clients who have hair growth due to abnormal systemic conditions such as PCOS is very different from treating clients with say post-menopausal hair growth. It can often take more treatment sessions but the results are long-term. However, because clients have on going hormonal issues odd hair follicles can be stimulated to produce a course hair. These can be dealt with easily. In our experience clients may need to visit annually or even once every few years. The good thing is you know we are always there and all you have to do is pick up the phone and book in should any stray hairs appear.

Not for light-assisted hair removal. If the hair is suitable for laser/VPL we just need the hair to be just visible as a dot on the skin so that we can see the location. It you have white or red hairs these will need to be treated with electrolysis and will need to be longer (three days growth). Where clients have a mixture of hair colours we will treat the dark ones first then deal with the lighter colours.

If you are having laser or VPL treatment you can apply make-up immediately after your treatment. As electrolysis is more invasive you are advised not to apply make-up for 24 hours post treatment.

In certain circumstances funding may be available by making an Individual Funding Request with your local Integrated Care Board (ICB). We can help and advise you of how to apply for funding.
