Laser Hair Removal Altrincham

First developed in the 1990’s laser hair removal is now regarded as the most effective method of permanent hair removal. Established in 1997 Cristianos was one of the first clinics in the country to use laser. This gives Cristianos the  knowledge and experience unique in the field of laser hair removal. Our evidence-based practice over this time shows laser to be safe, effective, and permanent for hair removal.

How Laser Works

Selective photothermolysis is the destruction of a target beneath the surface of the skin. The use of light whilst leaving the surrounding skin tissue intact is important. In this case the melanin (colour) in the hair shaft is used to absorb the laser light whilst it passes harmlessly through the surrounding skin tissue. Once trapped within the hair shaft the light energy is converted to heat energy, thus heating and destroying the surrounding hair follicle. This renders the follicle incapable of producing a new hair.

Benefits of Laser

There are many methods of hair removal some are temporary such as waxing, threading, tweezing and shaving.  Only two methods are considered to be permanent, electrolysis and laser. Laser has many advantages over electrolysis for example: laser can deal with both small and large areas of hair growth with speed and efficiency. There is no requirement to growth the hair for treatment. Laser is non-invasive and therefore has no risk of infection. The downtime is virtually nil and make-up can be applied immediately post-treatment. The total number of treatments are far less than any other method of hair removal.

Systems we use

At Cristianos we have chosen to use the Lightsheer Diode  and the Energist Ultra Variable Pulsed light. These systems have been subject to extensive clinical trials. They are clinically proven to be safe and effective. Having a variety of systems to choose from means they can be used to their best advantage, producing the ultimate outcome for the individual client.

Our Clinicians

We are proud to have nursing and beauty therapy lecturers many of whom hold Degrees in Adult Learning and Assessment. Cristianos has an extensive evidence-based learning package. This is intended to ensure the highest quality of treatment and care is delivered consistently. Once new clinicians have reached the required level of expertise, they are assessed regularly and required to undertake CPD relevant to their role. Our clinicians are BIAE members

Laser/VPL/IPL Hair Removal

Laser VPL/IPL systems use the principle of selective photothermolysis to selectively heat and destroy the hair follicle. At Cristianos we have a selection of light-based systems. They are all clinically proven to be safe and effective.

Electrolysis

At Cristianos we offer both Blend and Thermolysis (short wave diathermy) methods. Electrolysis can be used to treat any hair or skin colour and in cases where light assisted hair removal may be contra-indicated.

How does laser hair removal work?

Before we can fully understand how laser hair removal works in we need to look at the process of hair growth. On the surface of the skin all hair looks the same but the condition of the hair follicle is vitally important to the success of laser hair removal.

The effects of Ruby Laser light on hair growth was first observed by Professor Marc Clement whilst conducting a scientific experiment. This discovery was followed by substantial theoretical and experimental studies leading to the prediction of laser parameters that should achieve depilation.

Starting with a basic understanding of the laser tissue interaction, computer models were constructed to simulate effects on hair and surrounding skin when illuminated with intense pulse laser light. These models allowed the prediction of the laser parameters necessary to achieve depilation whilst minimising the risk of unwanted side effects. The ultimate goal being a fast and safe procedure, which could be carried out on the vast majority of the population.

On completion of the theoretical study, an ethically approved trial was carried out to determine if the computer prediction matched the clinical reality. Laser depilation is based on the technique know as selective photothermolysis. This is based upon the principle of using laser energy to selectively destroy a target beneath the surface of the skin whilst leaving the surrounding healthy tissue intact. The premise is therefore to irradiate the skin surface with a suitable laser source, which only deposits its energy in the target, the light passing harmlessly through the other tissue components.
