Laser Hair Removal Liverpool

Laser/IPL hair removal was first developed to assist plastic surgeons where donor site skin was hair bearing. Of course seeing its wider potential has led to a much more extensive use in the general population. Laser/IPL is now widely considered to be the safest, most efficient method of long term hair removal available. Make an enquiry today.

Cristianos was established in 1997 using laser/IPL for hair removal, which at the time was a new concept. Evidence based practice has resulted in Cristianos being regarded by many professionals as the most experience body of professionals working in the field of laser hair removal. This is reflected in Cristianos work with NHS and BUPA as well as with their private clients.

How laser/IPL works

Laser hair removal relies on the therapeutic light being absorbed into a hair shaft containing dark colour, melanin. The light is trapped in the hair shaft causing the energy to heat the surrounding hair follicle. This heating process destroys the hair follicle, preventing regrowth. This process is call selective photothermolysis as the light is selectively absorbed in the hair shaft and not in the surrounding skin.

Benefits of Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is suitable for small or large areas of hair removal and although the hair needs to be present in the hair follicle it does not have to be long in order to be treated successfully. The treatment is non-invasive which means there is no risk of infection following treatment, skin reaction is usually very mild and make-up can be applied immediately following treatment with no ill effects. Hair removal using light assisted technology is quick and efficient and requires far fewer sessions than any other method of hair removal.

Systems we use

The first priority in choosing a laser or IPL system is that it is clinically proven to be safe and effective. This is why Cristianos chose to use the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser, Lightsheer Diode Laser and the Energist Ultra Variable Pulsed Light. Having a variety of hair removal systems under one roof means we can tailor treatment to the individual client’s hair removal needs, using all three systems to produce the optimum results for our clients.

Our Clinicians

All clinicians at Cristianos are trained, qualified and experienced, most having been with us in excess of ten years and some since we opened. All staff take part in evidence based training, are subject to assessments and are required to partake in continuous professional development. Many of our staff are themselves vastly experienced nursing or beauty therapy lecturers with degrees in Adult Learning and assessment qualifications.

Our work at Cristianos is underpinned by extensive policies and procedures appertaining to health and safety. As professionals our staff are ever vigilant to the need for their workplace to be safe and hygienic from themselves and their clients.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) in the form of masks, gloves and aprons are available for staff use. Laser/IPL safety goggles and hand sanitiser are supplied for the use of staff and clients.

Specific safety procedures apply to the safe use of laser/IPL system and your clinician will guide you through this.

Consultation

Consultation is always conducted in the best interest of the client to ensure we are providing you with treatment that is safe and meets your needs. Consultation is free of charge and is carried out by a trained, qualified and experienced clinician. You will be asked some questions about your health and any medications you may be taking, we will give you information relating to the treatment options, their effects, side-effects, benefits, risks, limitations and costs. You will also be given this information in the form of a booklet to take home and refer to as you need.

Test patch is also performed free of charge. This allows us to observe your reaction. It also allows you to experience laser/IPL and use this in your decision making.

You will never be sold anything or coerced into agreeing to treatment. Consultation and test patch are completely free and without obligation.

What will laser/IPL hair removal feel like?

Every clients experience is unique and will depend on such things as body location, skin and hair colour, laser/IPL system used. The vast majority of clients report that the experience is uncomfortable but quick and not painful. Test patch is the only way for any prospective client to gauge their individual experience.

Laser/VPL/IPL Hair Removal

Laser VPL/IPL systems use the principle of selective photothermolysis to selectively heat and destroy the hair follicle. At Cristianos we have a selection of light-based systems all of which are clinically proven to be safe and effective.

Electrolysis

At Cristianos we offer both Blend and Thermolysis (short wave diathermy) methods. Electrolysis can be used to treat any hair or skin colour and in cases where light assisted hair removal may be contra-indicated.

How does laser hair removal work?

Before we can fully understand how laser hair removal works in we need to look at the process of hair growth. On the surface of the skin all hair looks the same but the condition of the hair follicle is vitally important to the success of laser hair removal.

The effects of Ruby Laser light on hair growth was first observed by Professor Marc Clement whilst conducting a scientific experiment. This discovery was followed by substantial theoretical and experimental studies leading to the prediction of laser parameters that should achieve depilation.

Starting with a basic understanding of the laser tissue interaction, computer models were constructed to simulate effects on hair and surrounding skin when illuminated with intense pulse laser light. These models allowed the prediction of the laser parameters necessary to achieve depilation whilst minimising the risk of unwanted side effects. The ultimate goal being a fast and safe procedure, which could be carried out on the vast majority of the population.

On completion of the theoretical study, an ethically approved trial was carried out to determine if the computer prediction matched the clinical reality. Laser depilation is based on the technique know as selective photothermolysis. This is based upon the principle of using laser energy to selectively destroy a target beneath the surface of the skin whilst leaving the surrounding healthy tissue intact. The premise is therefore to irradiate the skin surface with a suitable laser source, which only deposits its energy in the target, the light passing harmlessly through the other tissue components.
