Preparation for Consultation and Treatment 2023

05.09.2023

Preparing your hair and skin for Consultation & Treatment

In order that we can advise you correctly at consultation we need to see the colour, extent, and the nature of the hair growth you wish to have removed.

Electrolysis

For clients who are coming to the clinic with a view to having electrolysis treatment we need at least three days hair growth on the treatment area, (without cutting, shaving or use of depilatory cream). This is because we need to see the direction the hair is growing in to determine where the hair follicle lies so the probe can be  inserted accurately.

Your skin must be completely clean and free from make-up this will help to reduce the incidence of infection post treatment. Exfoliating your skin the day before treatment will help to clear any dead skin cells which may block the entrance to the hair follicle. Use a gentle exfoliator and take care not to break the skin as we are unable to treat if the skin is broken.

Laser

If you are interested in laser hair removal the hair growth needs to be just long enough for us to see the location and colour of the hair, but not too long. This is because having a test patch gives better results and less skin reaction if the hair is short. For facial areas you can shave the morning of the day before your consultation but NOT on the day of your appointment.

The skin must be completely free of any tan, this includes false tans and any product with tanning agents. Exfoliating the skin the day before treatment is useful to remove any dead skin cells that might deflect the light. Use a gentle exfoliator and take care not to break the skin as we are unable to treat if the skin is broken. On the day of consultation and treatment, it is important that you do not use any product for example soap, shower gel, body lotion or moisturiser that contains products which may cause photosensitivity i.e. Bergamot or citrus fruits.

Other Areas

In preparation for the treatment of large body areas such as back, chest, legs etc we need the hair to be short. Whilst you can simply shave the hair leaving just stubble, we would suggest that before the first treatment (not subsequent treatments sessions or consultation) you allow the hair to grow so you can have that area waxed and then book you first laser session just as the hairs starts to regrow through the skin. This means that the hair that is in the growing phase (anagen),  which is the best stage for us to kill the hair follicle.  At all other subsequent sessions you can simply shave the area so that the hair is short. This is not essential, you could just shave the area but waxing will mean you get a better results faster.
